Theory Lessons
Theory is an integral part of learning the piano and therefore, learning to play the piano is taught in conjunction with theory so that the student can understand the music they play from the very early stages.
I teach theory of music from the beginner levels through to ABRSM Theory Grades 1 – 8.
Even where a student decides not to take exams, theory still needs to be done so that the student can fully understand and properly interpret the music they learn to play.
95% of my theory exam students achieve a distinction for their ABRSM theory exams.
I’m also available to teach theory as separate lessons where the pupil doesn’t take piano lessons with me but takes their instrumental lessons with another teacher. Grade 5 theory is a pre-requisite for grade 6 practical exams for all instruments.
All theory lessons are an hour per week arranged as suitable to the pupil.
